Health protocol for entering Indonesia during Covid

Due to the pandemic, there are several additional requirements the foreigner arriving in Indonesia must follow. As of March 29, 2021, the requirements are as following:

  • You must enter Indonesia via Jakarta or Surabaya airports
  • You must show a negative PCR that was taken less than 72 hours before your arrival
  • After arrival, you are required to go to one of the government-appointed quarantine hotels for five days.
  • There will be two swab tests (PCR tests) conducted during your quarantine. Once you complete the quarantine and test negative, you are free to move around Indonesia

How does the quarantine period look like in Indonesia?

Indonesia follows a strict quarantine hotel model. It means that prior to arrival to Indonesia, you will have to choose a government-sanctioned hotel where you will be stationed for the next five days.

There is a relatively long list of hotels of various price ranges that can be used as quarantine hotels – including many of the popular Jakarta’s five-star hotels such as Ritz Carlton Mega Kuningan or Fairmont.

It’s important to note that the quarantine is strictly enforced. After your arrival, you will be going directly to your hotel and you will not be able to leave your room until the quarantine is completed nor have visitors.

The hotel will provide you with meals and you are allowed to order food from the delivery services.

Making your quarantine in Indonesia more convenient

Being stuck in a hotel room for five days can be frustrating, regardless of how nice is your hotel. However, compared to many other countries in the region, at least it allows you to enter Indonesia and the quarantine period is still relatively short.

Here are some ways to make your quarantine more convenient:

  • Pick the room type carefully. Make sure how big is the room and which amenities it comes with.
  • Be creative – good hotels can accommodate your special requests. For example, request some fitness equipment from the hotel or send some items to your room prior to your arrival.
  • Jakarta is great for ordering things online – use apps like Gofood for meals or Tokopedia for shopping (Those are just some examples. Emerhub has no affiliation with the aforementioned companies.)

The process of applying for an Indonesian visa during Covid

The single entry visa application takes about 7-10 days. The process will be as following:

  1. Send soft copies of the required documents to Emerhub. This includes your passport copy, bank statement, and flight tickets (arrival to Jakarta).
  2. Emerhub acts as your visa sponsor and processes your visa.
  3. Once you receive your visa, book a hotel for your quarantine.
  4. After arrival, spend five days in the quarantine hotel and you’re free to go around Indonesia.
