The Ngoại Giao (NG) Visa is issued to foreigners who have diplomatic status or represent foreign governments or international organizations in Vietnam.

What can you do with a Diplomatic Visa in Vietnam?

Allowed with Diplomatic Visa:

  • Employment and working for compensation within the sponsors diplomatic entity
  • Diplomatic, consular or other duties relating to official functions
  • Certain privileges and immunities on taxes, customs, legal processes based on diplomatic relations
  • Renewal and extensions based on diplomatic mission length

❌ Not Allowed with Diplomatic Visa:

  • Employment or working for compensation outside of official duties
  • Commercial activities such as setting up or running a private business
  • Involvement in domestic politics and affairs outside the scope of the diplomatic mission

How to get an NG visa in Vietnam?

The application process for a diplomatic visa in Vietnam is generally simpler and faster to facilitate movement for foreign diplomats to and from Vietnam. Below are the required documents:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months
  • Diplomatic note from the foreign government assigning you to Vietnam
  • Sponsorship from a foreign mission or international organization
  • Additional documentation may be requested depending on the diplomatic mission (employment documents, itinerary, etc.)
