These are specifically defined as reagents, kits, instruments, or systems intended to be used in vitro for the examination of specimens derived from the human body, primarily for providing information on physiological or pathological states, determining compatibility of donations, or monitoring therapeutic measures.
While IVD medical devices are covered by the AMDD, they have specific risk classification rules that differ from other medical devices.
