Eligibility Criteria to Work in Hong Kong
To work legally in Hong Kong, foreigners must obtain a work visa from the Hong Kong Immigration Department. Securing this visa allows you to apply for the necessary permits to start your employment in the region:
- There must be no history of a criminal record
- Relevant educational qualifications (typically a university degree)
- A genuine job vacancy
- A confirmed employment offer
- A salary aligns with local market standards
Additionally, applicants must demonstrate exceptional qualifications and experience for the job, along with evidence that it cannot be filled by local talent. The sponsoring company must also provide supporting documents explaining why the position cannot be filled locally and display a commitment to doing business in Hong Kong.
Local work compliance includes reporting any changes in the employee’s job title, duties, or salary to the Immigration Department. Additionally, employers must keep visa documentation valid and up-to-date to refrain from unauthorized work.
