To sell an imported product in Malaysia as halal, it has to be certified by a foreign halal certification body that JAKIM recognizes. Use the list below to check whether your certifier qualifies, and see how recognition and the halal mark work.

Under the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011, an imported product cannot be described or marked as halal in Malaysia unless it is certified by a foreign halal certification body that JAKIM recognizes. A halal claim backed by an unrecognised certificate has no standing.
For meat and poultry the rule is stricter still: every imported meat and meat-based product must be certified by a recognized body, and the plant itself must be inspected and approved by JAKIM together with the Department of Veterinary Services, against MS 1500 and the Malaysian Protocol for Halal Meat and Poultry Production.
Recognition is granted for two years and is gazetted in batches. As of the amendment effective 30 January 2026, JAKIM recognizes 94 bodies across roughly 48 countries. The name of the certifying body must appear on the product.
Search by name or filter by country. The recognized list changes as JAKIM gazettes amendments — always confirm a body’s current status on the JAKIM Halal Malaysia portal before you rely on it.

JAKIM recognizes bodies it judges able to uphold Malaysian halal standards on its behalf.
The body applies directly to JAKIM and is assessed against MS 1500 and the Malaysian Halal Management System, including its competence and integrity in the categories it certifies.
Once approved, the body is gazetted and listed on JAKIM’s portal as a recognized foreign halal certification body, for a term of two years.
The body files annual reports and stays open to JAKIM follow-up inspections. Recognition is renewed at the end of each two-year term.
What it takes to carry a halal claim into the Malaysian market.
Confirm your certifier is on JAKIM’s recognized list and is recognized for your product category, whether that is slaughtering, ingredients, or consumer goods.
Have the product certified by that body in the country of manufacture, to MS 1500 and the relevant Malaysian protocols.
Carry the certifying body’s name on the product, and clear meat and poultry through the JAKIM and Veterinary Services plant approval before import.
What importers ask about halal-marked goods.
Only if you market a product as halal. You cannot make a halal claim unless the product is certified by JAKIM or a recognized foreign body. For imported meat and poultry, recognized-body certification is mandatory regardless.
Then its certificate is not valid for a halal claim in Malaysia. You either certify through a recognized body in the country of origin or pursue certification routes accepted by JAKIM. You can still sell the product, just not described as halal.
Two years. Bodies are added and amended in gazetted batches, so a certifier recognized today may not be next term. Always check the current list before relying on it.
Yes. An importer or manufacturer marking imported goods as halal must show the name of the recognized foreign body that certified them.
94 bodies across roughly 48 countries, under the amendment effective 30 January 2026. The figure shifts each time JAKIM gazettes a new batch.
Tell us what you are importing and we will check it against the current JAKIM list, then handle the certification and the paperwork.
