General Requirements
- Correct Language and Spelling: Use proper grammar and spelling in your company name.
- Ending Suffixes:
- Public companies must end with “Berhad” or “Bhd.”
- Private companies must end with “Sendirian Berhad” or “Sdn. Bhd.”
- Unlimited companies must end with “Sendirian” or “Sdn.
- Availability: The name must not be identical to existing business entities registered with SSM or currently reserved.
- Length: Avoid names that are too long (over 50 words) or too short (e.g., “Zam Sdn Bhd”).
Language and Content Guidelines
- Language Mixing: You can mix Malay and English if it describes the business type and follows proper grammar.
- Foreign Languages: If using words from languages other than Malay or English, provide their meaning.
- Invented Words: If you create or coin a word, explain its meaning2.
- Offensive Content: Names should not be blasphemous, offensive to the public, or resemble religious elements.
- Generality: Avoid using words that are too general, such as “Beautiful Sdn. Bhd.” or “International Trading Sdn. Bhd.
Restricted Words and Symbols
- Symbols: Only five symbols are allowed in company names: “&”, “.”, “-“, “()”, and “‘”. Use them appropriately.
- Government-Related Words: The word “Malaysia” or names of Malaysian states at the beginning of the name are not allowed without government interest or consent.
- Prohibited Words: “Company”, “Co”, “Syarikat”, “Corporation”, “Corp”, “Perbadanan”, “Incorporated”, “Inc”, etc., are generally prohibited unless there’s government interest.
