Overview

What is the Indonesia Golden Visa?

The Golden Visa is Indonesia’s residency-by-investment program — a 5- or 10-year stay permit granted in exchange for a qualifying investment, under the E28 index. It’s built for people who want a long, stable base in Indonesia without the yearly renewals of a standard KITAS, whether they invest passively, found a company, or lead a corporate expansion.

The program has moved real money since its launch: close to USD 3 billion invested and more than a thousand visas issued by early 2026. Its first recipient under the World Figures category was OpenAI’s Sam Altman, which set the tone for the profile Indonesia is courting.

Investment routes

Golden Visa types and investment thresholds

Five investment routes, each with a 5-year and a 10-year tier, plus the invitation categories alongside them. The right one depends on whether you invest passively, build a business, or come in through a corporation.

E28C

Passive investor

For individuals who invest without establishing a company. Funds go into Indonesian government bonds, shares listed on the IDX, mutual funds, or deposits at state-owned banks (Mandiri, BNI, or BRI). The 10-year tier can also be met with a residential property purchase.

5 years
USD 350,000
10 years
USD 700,000, or USD 1,000,000 in residential property
E28B

Investor establishing a company

For founders who set up and capitalise their own Indonesian company — a PT PMA — at Golden Visa scale. The investment is evidenced through the company establishment and audited financials.

5 years
USD 2,500,000
10 years
USD 5,000,000
E28D

Corporate investors

For companies committing large-scale investment in Indonesia. The company qualifies, and it can nominate up to ten executives — directors and commissioners — to receive Golden Visas under its umbrella.

5 years
USD 25,000,000
10 years
USD 50,000,000
E28F

Nusantara (IKN) investors

For investors in approved projects in Indonesia’s new capital in East Kalimantan. The government cut these thresholds in January 2026 to draw capital into the city’s build-out.

5 years
USD 5,000,000
10 years
USD 10,000,000
E28G

Representatives of foreign companies

For senior representatives of large overseas companies establishing a presence in Indonesia. Qualification rests on the parent company’s scale — an audited annual turnover and verified shareholding — rather than a local capital placement.

5 years
Parent turnover of USD 25,000,000
10 years
Parent turnover of USD 50,000,000
Non-investment

World figures and global talent

Alongside the investment routes, Indonesia grants Golden Visas by invitation to globally prominent figures and to specialists under the global talent categories — on government recommendation rather than a capital threshold.

The benefits

What the Golden Visa gives you

The point of the program is residency that stays out of your way.

5 or 10 years of residency, renewable
No separate work permit to manage your investment
Spouse and children included
Multiple entry, with priority lanes at major airports
No physical presence requirement to keep the visa
Fully online application, no embassy visit
The investment has to stay in place. The qualifying amount is held for the life of the visa, and immigration verifies it. Selling down below the threshold puts the residency at risk, so the structure of the investment deserves as much attention as the visa itself.
What you need

Golden Visa requirements

  • A passport valid for at least six months.
  • Proof of the qualifying funds or investment for your category and tier.
  • A traceable source of funds.
  • For company routes — establishment documents and audited financials.
  • For corporate representatives — the parent company’s audited turnover and your verified shareholding or position.
  • A recent color photograph and standard personal documents.

Each category carries its own evidence rules. Deposits sit with state-owned banks, bonds and shares need the right custody documents, and company routes are verified through audits. Getting the evidence format right the first time is most of the work.

How it works

How to apply for the Golden Visa

The application is online; the investment is placed after approval. Most clients come to us before they’ve placed the funds — earlier is better, because the structure has to qualify, and stay qualifying.

1

Choose the category

E28B, C, D, F, or G — depending on whether you’re investing passively, founding a company, coming in through a corporation, or anchoring in Nusantara.

2

Source of funds review

Immigration expects the money to be traceable through legitimate channels. We review the trail before the application is submitted — this is where applications most often run into trouble.

3

Apply online

The application runs through the official immigration portal with your passport, financial evidence, and category-specific documents.

4

Place the investment

After approval you have 90 days to complete the qualifying investment. We coordinate with the banks or brokers so the proof documents come out right.

5

Arrive and reside

The e-visa and re-entry permit are issued with the approval — no separate stay permit application at an immigration office. Family permits come through alongside.

Common questions

Golden Visa questions

What investors ask before committing.

What is the Indonesia Golden Visa?

A residency-by-investment program granting 5 or 10 years of stay for a qualifying investment — from USD 350,000 in bonds, shares, or state-bank deposits for individuals to USD 50 million for corporate investors. It includes family, needs no separate work permit, and is applied for online.

What is the minimum investment?

USD 350,000 for a 5-year visa as a passive individual investor, placed in government bonds, IDX-listed shares, mutual funds, or deposits at a state-owned bank. The 10-year tier is USD 700,000, or USD 1,000,000 in residential property.

Can I work in Indonesia on a Golden Visa?

You can manage your own investment and business without a separate work permit, which is one of the main draws. Taking employment with an unrelated Indonesian company is a different matter and sits under the work permit rules.

Do I have to live in Indonesia to keep it?

No. There’s no physical presence requirement. What has to stay in place is the investment itself, which is held at the qualifying level for the life of the visa.

Can my family come with me?

Yes. Your spouse and children are included, with their permits issued alongside yours for the same period.

How does the Nusantara (IKN) route work?

For investors in approved projects in Indonesia’s new capital in East Kalimantan. The government cut these thresholds in January 2026 to draw more capital into the city’s build-out — USD 5 million for the 5-year visa, USD 10 million for the 10-year. It’s the most concessional of the company-scale routes if your project qualifies.

What happens if I sell my investment?

The qualifying amount is held for the life of the visa. Selling down below the threshold can have the residency revoked. If you want flexibility on the underlying assets, the structure has to be set up that way from the start — passive routes (bonds, deposits, IDX shares) are easier to swap within the category than property purchases.

Does Emerhub set up the investment too?

We coordinate with banks, brokers, and custodians so the proof documents come out in the format immigration accepts, and we structure company routes (E28B, E28F, E28G) end to end. We don’t advise on which assets to buy — that’s your decision and your wealth team’s. We make sure the structure qualifies, and stays qualifying.

Talk to our Indonesia team

Most Golden Visa applications fail or stall on one of two things: the source-of-funds trail, or the way the investment is structured. Our Jakarta team has been running these from the program’s launch — send us a rough outline of what you want to invest and how, and we’ll tell you whether the structure qualifies.
