If you hold a KITAS or KITAP, the E31B lets your husband or wife live in Indonesia with you, for as long as your own permit is valid.
The spouse KITAS, index E31B, is the limited stay permit for the legally married husband or wife of a foreigner who holds a KITAS or KITAP. Your spouse lives in Indonesia with you, enters and leaves freely on a multiple entry permit, and stays for the same period as your own permit.
It’s valid for 1 or 2 years in most cases — the same as the principal KITAS — and renewed alongside it. The 5- and 10-year versions are only available where the principal holds a long-term permit such as a Golden Visa. Children under 18 get their own dependent permit, the E31E, on the same basis.
Everything that comes with living here, except taking a job.
The spouse KITAS is tied to the principal permit. The same sponsor that stands behind your KITAS — your employer, your own PT PMA if you hold an Investor KITAS, or Emerhub where we act as your Employer of Record — files the application for your spouse. The two permits stay linked: if your KITAS ends or changes sponsor, the spouse permit is affected the same way.
Since late 2025, holders of the E33G remote worker permit can also bring dependents on this basis. That change closed the one gap that used to leave nomad families on tourist visas.
Marriage documents issued abroad usually need legalization before immigration accepts them, and that step is what most often delays a family application. We check yours before anything is filed.
Filed online by the sponsor that stands behind your KITAS. We run it alongside the principal permit, or after the fact.
Marriage certificate, translations, and legalization — the steps that hold up most family applications. We review them before anything else.
The sponsor behind your KITAS submits the e-visa application for your spouse through the official immigration platform.
Your spouse enters on the approved visa, gives biometrics, and the e-KITAS is issued — matching your permit’s validity.
The spouse permit renews with the principal one. We track both so neither lapses, and add children under the E31E as needed.
What KITAS holders ask about bringing their husband or wife.
A limited stay permit for the legally married spouse of a foreigner holding a KITAS or KITAP. It allows them to live in Indonesia with multiple entry for the same period as the principal permit, and it renews alongside it.
The same as the principal permit, usually 1 or 2 years. The 5- and 10-year versions are only available where the principal holds a long-term permit such as a Golden Visa.
No. The spouse KITAS is residence only. To work, your spouse needs their own work permit and E23 work KITAS through an Indonesian employer — or through an Employer of Record where there’s no local entity. Both permits can run alongside each other.
Then the visa is the E31A, sponsored by your Indonesian spouse rather than a company. It’s valid for 1 or 2 years, and after two years of marriage you can move to a spouse KITAP for permanent residence.
Yes. Children under 18 and unmarried come in under the E31E dependent index, on the same sponsor and the same validity as your permit. We file the family together.
Holders of the main long-stay permits — work, investor, and since late 2025 the E33G remote worker permit — can bring a spouse under the E31B. The application is filed by the sponsor behind the principal permit.
Yes, unless it’s already in Indonesian or English. It needs a sworn translation, and certificates issued abroad usually need legalization as well. This is the document that most often holds up a family application, so we check it first.
For most spouse-KITAS applications the only complication is the marriage certificate — translation, legalization, the bit where applications get stuck. Send us a scan of the certificate and your own KITAS, and our Jakarta team will check whether anything needs fixing before the sponsor files.
