Smart Investor visa “I” in Thailand
The Smart Investor Visa is designed for foreign investors who directly invest in technology businesses operating within the Thai Board of Investment (BOI) targeted industries.
Eligibility criteria
🗂️ Eligible types of foreign investments:
- Direct investments by individuals
- Investments made through Venture Capital companies (must be certified by relevant Thai agencies)
✅ Visa requirements:
- Direct investments of ≥ THB 20 million (approximately USD 27,235) into tech-based businesses within BOI-targeted industries
- Businesses must be government-certified as tech-based in manufacturing or delivering services within target industries
- Direct investments by individuals totaling at least THB 5 million into a startup or incubation program
- Investment(s) must be maintained as long as the Visa is valid
What are the benefits of the Smart (I) Visa?
The Thai Smart Investment Visa for foreign investors acting individually or via a certified venture capital firm who are directly contributing to BOI-promoted industries and companies.
- The Visa is renewable for up to 4 years.
- Exemption from work permit requirements for working in Thai entities or government agencies.
- Yearly reporting to immigration offices (extended from the usual 90-day reporting)
- Exemption from multiple-entry permit requirements
