Traditional medicine and herbal products, including jamu, are registered with BPOM. A domestically produced product carries a TR number and an imported one carries a TI number. Standardized herbal products may carry an HT code. The registration is valid for five years.

BPOM places particular emphasis on physical samples for laboratory testing in this category. Halal certification applies, with the 17 October 2026 deadline under GR 42/2024, and registration runs through a local license holder.

How registration works

  1. Appoint a local license holder
    Imported traditional medicine (TI) is registered by an Indonesian entity.
  2. Compile the dossier
    Composition, manufacturing and quality data, and label artwork.
  3. Submit to BPOM and provide samples
    Physical samples for laboratory testing are emphasized in this category.
  4. Receive the TR or TI number
    The registration is valid for five years before renewal.
